01

What it is and
where it fits.

Electronic paper reflects ambient light rather than producing a bright illuminated image. It consumes very little power when content is static, making it useful for schedules, directories and information that changes periodically.

E-paper is not a replacement for full-motion LED or LCD. Refresh rate, colour capability, operating temperature, front lighting, connectivity and update frequency determine whether it fits the project.

Specify performance,
not just screen size.

We review the display, structure, electrical work, content platform and installation together so the finished system suits the environment and its audience.

01

Update frequency

E-paper performs best where content changes periodically rather than displaying continuous animation or video.

02

Ambient light

Reflective screens are highly readable in daylight but may require front lighting in dark environments.

03

Power budget

Low update energy can support battery or solar strategies where wired power is difficult.

04

Temperature range

Outdoor Ottawa applications require a display and enclosure rated for seasonal conditions.

01

Assess

We review the site, viewing distance, audience, content and operating environment.

02

Specify

We define the display technology, enclosure, structure, power, controls and approvals.

03

Useful answers
before you specify.

Does e-paper play video?+

No. E-paper is intended for static or slowly changing information, not full-motion video.

Can it be read in sunlight?+

Yes. Reflective e-paper generally becomes easier to read in strong ambient light.

Does it need continuous power?+

Many e-paper screens retain an image without continuous display power, although controllers and communications still require an energy source.

Can e-paper be used outdoors in Ottawa?+

Potentially, with a suitable temperature-rated display, weather-resistant enclosure and power strategy.

Plan the right
display system.
